Schlumberger Guyana Incorporated to facilitate Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) training.

Minister of Labour, Hon. Joseph Hamilton and a team comprised of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Consultant, Ms. Gweneth King, Chief Executive Officer of The Board of Industrial Training (BIT), Mr. Richard Maughn and Senior Technical Officers, Mr. Bevon Shepherd and Mr. Leon Greaves, on Thursday, February 22, 2022, met with Managing Director of Schlumberger Guyana Incorporated, Mr. Ernesto Cuadros.

A broad discussion followed for future collaboration between the Ministry of Labour and BIT to facilitate Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) training for the ministry’s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) department staff, as well as the process for achieving compliance with the Industrial Training Act for the National Apprenticeship Program, as a result of the high-level visit.

Further, Schlumberger’s indicated to comply with the aforementioned Act, as means to provide Guyanese with the opportunity to be exposed to and get high-quality training in state-of-the-art facilities owned by major oil and gas companies.

Before the engagement ended, Schlumberger Guyana Incorporated also handed over 30 laptops to the teachers of the Houston Secondary School on the East Bank of Demerara.

Minister Hamilton was impressed by the generous initiative made by the company and further elaborated on Schlumberger Guyana Inc.’s overhaul of the structure, specialized services, use of current technology, and high level of training Guyanese workers are receiving.
