Ninety (90) residents of Herstelling on the East Bank of Demerara, and surrounding communities, on Sunday, October 30, 2022, received their certificates at a graduation ceremony offered by the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).
The ceremony was held at the Herstelling Assembly of God Global Outreach Center (HAOG GOC) and was attended by Minister of Labour, Hon. Joseph Hamilton, Chief Executive Officer of BIT, Mr. Richard Maughn, Head of Herstelling Assembly of God Global Outreach Center, Dr. Ravindra Shiwnandan, among other officials of BIT and the Church.
The graduates were trained in Floral Designs and Event Decor, Information Technology, Cosmetology, Cake Decorating, Garment Construction and Catering programmes and it is the sixth (6) collaboration between BIT and the HAOG GOC since 2009.
Minister Hamilton praised the graduates for their commitment towards completing their studies to become employed, he also noted that today’s event is a steppingstone toward what they will later accomplish in life to be successful. The minister explained thatBIT has trained over 7000 individuals in Guyana in two years and as such, the agency will continue to provide its services to empower citizens.
He also pledged his ministry’s support to assist in the church’s, regarding training Venezuelans migrants vocational and technical programmess, to help them properly integrate in society.
BIT’s CEO, Mr. Maughn, in brief remarks, said the country has a shortage of skilled individuals which the agency is working assiduously to address. He told the graduates that while BIT has equipped them with the necessary skills to become employable, it is up to them to move forward in life.
He also urged the graduates to use their skills to make a difference in their respective communities. He added that a team from BIT will check up on the graduates’ progress, since completing the programmes.
