Residents of Sophia and surrounding communities before the end of the month will commence the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) programme thanks to the Government of Guyana.
Earlier this afternoon the agency’s skills programme was launched at the Georgetown Training Centre, a dream brought to reality for its beneficiary, through collaborative efforts between the Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports, Hon. Charles Ramson Jr, Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Hon. Oneidge Walrond, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon. Kwame Mc Coy and Minister of Labour, Hon. Joseph Hamilton.
The launch of the Board of Industrial Training initiative held at the Georgetown Training Centre is a dream realized for several residents of Sophia and outskirt communities. The delivery of the skilled prgramme areas will be delivered by BIT, such as, Heavy-Duty Equipment Operation, Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Installation, Information Technology, and Plumbing.
Other major hands played for the implementation of the programme saw the loaning of a training facilities thanks to the Ministry of Youth, Cultural and Sport. The monitoring of the programme will be executed by BIT team under the stewardship of the Minister of Labour.
Those present at the opening, included prospective trainees and their families and passersby who became intrigued of the exercise. The ministers filled the gathering with words of encouragement as one hundred and nine (109) persons registered to the once in a lifetime programme. This comprised of fifty-five (55) males and fifty-four (54) females.
Hon. Oneidge Walrond, commended those who expressed an interest in the programme, particularly women, she further pledged her support to trainees who are going to become successful graduates to become entrepreneurs by providing financial assistance through the Small Business Bureau (SBB). Similar sentiments were also shared by Hon. Kwame Mc Coy, who also monitor the geographical area and contributes to its development.
Thanks were extended by Hon. Joseph Hamilton to the applicants who saw the positivity in joining the course which will serve each one of them good in return. He spoke strongly of the Government of Guyana commitment to develop each and every community and its never-ending commitment to improve the lives of every citizen. The Minister also highlighted that BIT mandate is to provide all the necessities to ensure that all trainees complete the course without any hinderances.
At the end of the opening a tour of the classrooms was carried out.
