The Board of Industrial Training (BIT) has improved the lives of 91 residents in Mahdia, Region Eight, by certifying them in Heavy-Duty Equipment Operation, Welding and Fabrication, and Cosmetology.
This came after a graduation ceremony at Mahdia Secondary School on Friday, May 12th, 2023, which is also the second batch of Region Eight residents to acquire skill training to gain employment.
Members of the region’s Regional Democratic Councils (RDC), North Pakaraimas, Paramakatoi, Kurukubaru, and Kato villages were recruited by Hon. Joseph Hamilton, Minister of Labour in 2021, to take advantage of the free Government training programmes.
Following this meeting, the representatives chose Garment Construction, Electrical Installation, Heavy-Duty Equipment Operation (HDEO), and Cosmetology as courses that would be valuable to each community.
Minister Hamilton, Mr. Louis Kilkenny, Deputy Regional Executive Officer, Board of Industrial Training, Mr. Jermaine Geness, Senior Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Ms. Natecia Garraway, and Technical Officer, Mr. Rohan Bishop were all present at the graduation ceremony.
Officials encouraged the graduates and congratulated them for choosing to empower themselves via vocational training.
