Shastri Lakeram perfect the art of barbering for more than a decade and is known by many for his clean cut at his place of business in central Georgetown. However, the father of two possess the passion to always learn a new skill and signed up at the Board of Industrial Training (BIT) to pursue Electrical Installation.

“I graduated from the Board of Industrial Training programme on September, Sunday 17, among seventy (70) other persons who completed a sixteen-week training programme at the Georgetown Training Center. I would go to my place of business early in the mornings, then go to be trained in electrical installation for approximately four hours, four days a week and after every class session, I would return to my place of business to work late hours to make up to my customers who were placed on hold. All my sacrifices paid off and I’m please I took away the prize of Best Graduating Trainee in Electrical Installation. My reward from the programme offered to me by the Government is that if something happens at my place of business, I can be able to fix it myself, keeping the money in my pocket and this is just the beginning, I have already applied for further training in electrical installation and I am very excited, thanks to BIT I got the start i needed.” – Shastri Lakeram.
